ASSOCIAÇÃO DO PERFIL DE ENFRENTAMENTO (COPING) COM A OCORRÊNCIA DE TENDINOPATIA PATELAR EM ATLETAS VOLEIBOL E BASQUETEBOL
ResumoPalavras-chave:
TP. Resultados: A CART obteve sensibilidade de 77,7% e especificidade de 63,6%. A área sob

AbstractKeywords:
High stress in sports environments and a limited ability to cope with factors are
risk factors that can increase the development of places. Objective: To identify the coping
profile of volleyball and basketball athletes and to verify the association between coping and
the occurrence of Patellar Tendinopathy (PT). Study design: This is a cross-sectional,
observational, quantitative study. Method: This is a cross-sectional, observational,
quantitative study. Data were obtained through interviews with 246 high-performance
volleyball and basketball athletes from professional clubs in Brazil who participated in a preseason screening over a period of 8 months. Using the Victorian Institute Of Sport Assessment
Scale (VISA-P BR) instruments to assess the severity of athletes with symptoms of pain and/or
tenderness in the lower pole of the patella, considered to have PD, and the Brazilian version of
the Athletic Coping Skills (ACSI 25 BR) to identify coping strategies when dealing with stressful
situations. The statistical model used was the Classification and Regression Trees (CART) to
identify interaction factors associated with PT. Results: CART model obtained a sensitivity of
77.7% and specificity of 63.6%. The area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve
(ROC) was 0.76 (95% confidence interval: 0.70, 0.82; P < 0.001). It was found that low scores on the psychological variables confidence, concentration, performance under pressure and
dealing with adversity are strongly associated with the presence of TP as well as high
Confidence and Performance under pressure were identified in the occurrence of TP in
volleyball and basketball athletes. Conclusion: Poor stress management and poor coping skills
can make athletes more vulnerable to injuries in sports environments. The classification and
regression tree used indicated that no single variable was able to classify individuals with or
without PT and revealed that the interactions between the variables confidence,
concentration, mental preparation, performance under pressure and dealing with adversity
depending on the cutoff values, they suggest that they have a protective effect for PT.
