Dissertação/Tese Analysis of Content, Credibility, and Quality of Information on COPD Treatment in YouTubeTM Videos: A Cross-sectional Observational Study - PPGREAB

A Doença Pulmonar Obstrutiva Crônica (DPOC) é causada pela exposição a partículas tóxicas e gases nocivos, tabagismo e/ou mutação genética, sendo caracterizada por sintomas respiratórios crônicos, anormalidades das vias aéreas, resultando em obstrução persistente ao fluxo aéreo. O tratamento dessa doença envolve intervenções farmacológicas e não farmacológicas que é fundamentado por diversos consensos e diretrizes da DPOC. O YouTubeTM é uma das plataformas sociais mais populares da internet e pode ser usada com frequência para compartilhamento de informações sobre o tratamento de doenças crônicas como a DPOC, entretanto a credibilidade dessas informações pode não ser adequada. Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a qualidade e a credibilidade das informações relativas ao tratamento da DPOC no YouTubeTM, a mais popular das plataformas de mídia social e avaliar seu alinhamento com a diretriz GOLD. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo observacional transversal que contou com a seleção de 200 vídeos da língua inglesa, postados no YouTubeTM. A avaliação dos vídeos incluídos no estudo foi através de instrumentos validados para qualidade e credibilidade das informações, Discern e HONcode respectivamente, e a partir de um instrumento criado pelos pesquisadores para observar a concordância com o GOLD, diretriz padrão ouro para DPOC. Resultados: A maioria dos vídeos (97,4%) demonstrou baixa concordância com as diretrizes, 75,7% obtiveram credibilidade alta de acordo com a avaliação do HONcode e em relação à qualidade das informações de saúde, avaliadas pelo Discern, 75,7% dos vídeos obtiveram classificação média. Conclusão: Os vídeos analisados demonstraram boa credibilidade, com qualidade variável entre média e baixa e pouca concordância com o GOLD, demonstrando que a análise contínua desse conteúdo pode ser utilizada para garantir o fornecimento de informações confiáveis no YouTubeTM.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is caused by exposure to toxic particles and harmful gases, smoking and/or genetic mutation, and is characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms, airway abnormalities, resulting in persistent airflow obstruction. The treatment of this disease involves pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions which is supported by several COPD consensus and guidelines. YouTubeTM is one of the most popular social platforms on the internet and can often be used to share information about the treatment of chronic diseases such as COPD, however the credibility of this information may not be adequate. Objective: This study aims to assess the quality and credibility of information regarding COPD treatment on YouTubeTM, the most popular of social media platforms, and to assess its alignment with the GOLD guideline. Methods: This is a cross- sectional observational study that included a selection of 200 English-language videos posted on YouTubeTM. The evaluation of the videos included in the study was performed using validated instruments for the quality and credibility of the information, Discern and HONcode respectively, and based on an instrument created by the researchers to observe compliance with the GOLD, the gold standard guideline for COPD. Results: Most videos (97.4%) showed low agreement with the guidelines, 75.7% had high credibility according to the HONcode assessment and in relation to the quality of health information, assessed by Discern, 75.7 % of videos got an average rating. Conclusion: The analyzed videos showed good credibility, with variable quality between medium and low and little agreement with the GOLD, demonstrating that the continuous analysis of this content can be used to guarantee the provision of reliable information on YouTubeTM.
